A week ago, I was at Sauder attending a great speech made by Robert Herjavec (from Dragons Den) about our future in business and the success tips for along the way. He was intelligent, brought up key points regarding business success and was anything but modest (with good reason).

Robert Herjavec
Here are some of his key tips along with some of my own little tidbits:
1.
When you drill deep enough, everyone who goes into business is looking for money. Some try to skirt around the issue but it is fact, business school produces a group of individuals that have the potential to be very wealthy. Don’t try to hide it.
2.
If you are to be an entrepreneur, be ready for 90% of your attempts to move a business in a certain direction to fail. Those who have the ability to pick themselves up and keep going will succeed.

You want to be like this kid!
3.
Most of the people closest to you, your professors, teachers etc. will tell you to be a well rounded person and focus on improving your weaknesses. This is a fantasized view of the world. How you are going to survive is to pick ONE thing that you are going to be the best in the world at; you will then be able to compete at a world class level.
4.
Want more than just money. Once you have money, it will not motivate you further. Expect greatness and push yourself through the next challenges in life. Money will follow.
5.
DO NOT GET COMFORTABLE! It is really easy to stop pushing once you get to a level where you feel safe and secure. Reach a goal you have set for yourself, savor it, then move forward to the next one.
6.
Start early. When you are a student in your youth, you don’t have much to loose and everything to gain. When it comes down to later in life, number one priority needs to be putting food on the table for your family. Earlier in life, the worst that can happen is that you lose it all and have to move back into your parent’s house for a few months.
7. Many people say this but don’t forget how to have fun. You will love it when you take weekends off and ski up at Whistler every weekend. Hard work does not mean kill yourself every single waking hour.

Be noticed within a crowd.
That is all I can remember making these the points that resonate with me. I hope this didn’t bore you and leave a comment with some more important points if you would like!
